Tres Leches, a dessert with origins in Latin America, is based on sponge cake baked and soaked in three types of milk. Many Latin American countries claim to have invented this dessert, but Mexico is the country with the closest ties to its original recipe. Albania is believed to be the first country in the Balkans to adopt the Tres Leches recipe.
According to these data, the inspiration came from a Brazilian telenovela where the characters praised this unique dessert. The recipe adapted best to Albanian cuisine, and around the year 2014, it traveled to Turkey where it became widely popular.
In Turkey, newspapers had to write articles about the origin of Tres Leches because the people referred to it as “that Albanian dessert.
